Club stalwart Lorraine Crawford has organised for more than 100 basketball shirts to be donated to the children of a Cambodian village.
Crawford’s close friend, Sue Walters, of Albury, travels regularly to the small village of Pongro where she has been providing ongoing assistance in the form of food and clothing, as well as helping to install wells and water filters.
Walters heads to Cambodia again on Tuesday where she will distribute the shirts.
“I went on a holiday over there when I retired in 2010 and had a fair bit of time on my hands, so I decided to go back help teach English,” Walters said.
“I met a receptionist who became a friend and I’ve been helping in her village ever since.
“Lorraine thought that the basketball shirts could be put to good use in the village,” Walters said.
“She was instrumental in organising it all for the club.
“Every time I go over I take 30 kilograms of clothing and aid with me, so I’ve now got two big suitcases fully packed to go.
“I’ll be going back again in a few weeks time, it just depends on which cheap airfare I get, because I’d rather spend my money on the village than the airfare.”
