Two carts brought to the Sanger Street competition by the Army Recruit Training Centre at Kapooka proved to be drawcards, with observers feeling crowd numbers had increased from last year.
The all-ages event comprises six different categories as competitors race down Corowa’s main street in both homemade and professional designs.
A ramp start sets the carts going and momentum and steering does the rest.
Jacob Wilson, 8, of Corowa, raced for the first time, driving a cart originally built by Corowa Rescue Squad members that joins the field each year.
His father Ben said the youngster, who came third in his age group, loved the experience.
“We had a bit of a practice run around the squad shed,” Mr Wilson said.
“A few little practice runs, getting used to it and that was about it.
“He can’t wait to do it again, he’s actually trying to talk us into building a new one next year for him.”
