That’s certainly the experience borne out at the hugely popular Border Steam and Oil Engine Club rally over the weekend.
Club president Darren Dakos said there had been good crowds, good weather and some “really, really good exhibits of a high quality”.
“The kids are fascinated.
“Some of them are stunned and it’s the noises they’re not sure about. Some of them love it,” Mr Dakos said
“Most of those who watch Thomas the Tank Engine know what a train is and how it works. All they want to see is the train.
“Trains are always a winner with the children, big and little.”
Another big advantage, he said with a laugh, was the rally’s train “ran on time better than V/Line I can assure you”.
“They’re more reliable,” Mr Dakos said.
An especially busy time was on Sunday morning.
After a lull around lunch, the numbers picked up again in the afternoon.
“Everybody was in a good mood,” Mr Dakos said.
“It was just a really good show.”
The rally, which was the club’s 47th, was held at Leneva, opposite the CFA shed on Beechworth-Wodonga Road.
