Andrina Dixen, 17, has been selected in the Australian team for the World Championships of Performing Arts at Long Beach, California, in July.
Now in its 22nd year, the annual talent competition for singers, dancers, actors and musicians includes a boot camp with industry professionals as well as scholarship prizes.
Andrina had sent off a video audition in January but only received word of her success two months later.
“I kind of had forgotten in the first place that I did an audition,” she said. “And when I told Dad about it, he thought I was joking.”
Andrina, who graduated from The Scots School Albury last year, is studying for her speech and drama diploma with Border teacher Val Edmunds.
She has also completed workshops with the National Institute of Dramatic Art, studied musical theatre through Trinity College London and performed in school and community shows.
“Drama is something that I’m quite passionate about,” she said.
“One of my goals for the championships is to get to the finals.
“They make a really big thing out of it.”
Andrina will use money from her hospitality job for her trip but has also set a fundraising goal of $5000.
“I’m so excited, I can’t wait to be over there and just show people what I can do,” she said.
“I feel really lucky to be given this opportunity to perform on a world stage, I think it’s just incredible.”
