The club debuted a new black uniforms for the season in round one, but this week will see them change things up once again for their first annual Bandits Heritage game this weekend.
A one-off yellow strip based on the club’s 1985 uniforms will be used and auctioned off (although the era-appropriate short shorts received a veto from the players), while basketball great Lauren Jackson will be a guest speaker at a function after the game.
It’s a big occasion for the club, but they won’t have to worry about star point guard Deba George rising to the occasion – he’s been on fire from the opening whistle.
George leads the league in made three pointers, and though the season is still young, he’s been hitting them at an incredibly efficient 62 per cent.
The hot shooting has helped the injury-plagued Bandits to a strong start, and George believes the team’s early chemistry has been a big part of it.
“The new guys that have come in, they’re good teammates and good friends, we got along well on and off the court,” he said.
“We’re not 100 per cent there yet, but as a group we’re on the right track to be great.
“We’ve focused on making sure everyone is on the same page.
“It’s always tough when you try to start well and have a couple of injuries, but at the end of the day you’ve gotta do the best with what you’ve got, and that’s what we’re doing at the moment.”
The Bandits take on North-West Tasmania on Saturday night, while the Lady Bandits have a bye.
