All profits from this event on Saturday, May 12, will go to the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Trust Fund, specifically towards the treatment and care of children affected by cancer.
The concert has been organised by the Lions Club of Lavington, which said proceeds will be passed on to the dedicated children’s treatment space within the Albury Base Hospital; a purpose-built area for paediatric oncology patients.
“This is the first time we have ever hosted an event such as this and without the generosity of spirit shown by The SS&A club in co-sponsoring the event, it would not be as successful as we believe it will be,” Lions Club of Lavington president Graham Jenkin said.
“That generosity will ensure that almost the full price of all tickets will go directly to this cause, as Choir Members themselves are volunteers and receive no compensation or subsidies for their time, travel or accommodation costs of being Choir Members.
“Beyond raising money for such a deserving cause, the Victoria Welsh Choir provides a very entertaining concert conducted in a light hearted fashion, featuring not only traditional Welsh songs and hymns, but also more recent popular numbers.”
The choir sings in the distinctive spine-tingling, four-part harmony of the traditional Welsh male choir.
It has a diverse musical repertoire, which includes Welsh songs (many in the Welsh language), other Celtic songs, popular songs, opera choruses, Broadway melodies and Afro-American spirituals.
The choir is renowned not only for the quality of its singing, but also for the relaxed, informal style, and good humour of their concerts.
They guarantee that you will leave the concert with a smile on your face and a glow in your heart.
The choir’s musical director, Faleiry Koczkar, was born in Wales and grew up with Welsh as her first language.
Mrs Koczkar is an award-winning conductor who has been honoured by both Wales, and her adopted homeland, Australia. She was also a harpist in the Welsh National Youth Orchestra.
