Police are trying to track down the driver of the stolen vehicle, who fled after the collision.
A woman in her 40s reported an injury to her hip and leg, and a boy aged about nine suffered neck and abdominal pain.
Both were taken to Albury hospital in a stable condition.
Inspector Scott Russell said the white Ford Falcon had been stolen from a home on Tarakan Avenue about 8.35pm.
“A short time later, at 8.40pm, it’s alleged that the stolen taxi has crossed onto the wrong side of the road and crashed head-on with a grey Hyundai at the intersection on Union Road and Corella Street,” he said.
“The person of interest that was driving the taxi has fled the scene.
“Police have identified this person and wish to speak to him so he can assist with the investigation.”
A NSW Ambulance spokesman said a third person may have been assessed at the scene, but did not need to be taken to hospital.
Both patients were conscious and breathing after the crash, which caused significant damage to both vehicles.
Both were write-offs.
Forensic officers examined the taxi on Thursday after it was towed from the scene.
It was unclear if the incident was caught on security cameras, but the area surrounding the scene has multiple businesses.
The crash caused minor traffic delays.
Police, firefighters and paramedics attended the collision.
Albury Taxis did not return calls on Thursday.
