Border Baby and Pregnancy Loss Support aims to raise money for its annual memorial walk and also the memento boxes for parents that are donated to Wodonga hospital’s maternity unit.
The market day, to be held Sunday, April 29, 10am-2pm at Thurgoona’s Kinross Woolshed, will feature at least 34 stalls, face painting and a jumping castle.
Candles, bath products, children’s clothing, plants, food, ornaments and craft will be on show while Sarah Corsbie will shave her head at noon if she receives $500 in donations for the group.
Support group members Sara Bayliss and Nell and Andy McLean said there would also be a Border Baby and Pregnancy Loss Support information stall, hoping to increase awareness and encourage conversations.
“When we have things like this, they’ll come up to us and say, ‘I lost a baby as well’ and they’re able to talk a lot more freely about it,” Mrs Bayliss said.
“A lot of it is people don’t know what to say, so they don’t want to upset the parents and family by saying the wrong thing,” Mr McLean said.
The organisers thanked the Kinross Woolshed for supporting their inaugural market day, which may turn into an annual event.
“It’s a bit different, but we’ve had such a good response and a lot of support so it’s been good,” Mrs McLean said.
