While Gerard Midson knew his side was well prepared for the round one clash after a rigorous pre-season, the non-playing coach said he was surprised by the margin.
“The boys have worked hard so it was good to get a reward for that,” Midson said.
“We had a really even spread of contributors with something like 12 goalkickers.
“It was a good start.”
Midfielder Daniel Hales was best afield with five goals while Mitch Paton and Keiran Brennan also hit the scoreboard with eight goals between them.
Steve Bradshaw held sway in the ruck, giving Federal’s running players an armchair ride at the centre bounces.
An under-strength Corryong lost Mitch Harris in the warm-up and Matt McNamara rolled his ankle during the clash.
Daniel Bates and Jayden Pryse tried hard for the Demons.
Zac Burhop must be the Upper Murray’s unluckiest footballer.
The Bullioh forward kicked nine goals in the Bulldogs’ 183-point hiding of Border-Walwa on Saturday but still couldn’t get a mention in the best players.
Twelve players kicked goals in a score of 38.14 (242) with Ben Commins taking best on ground honours.
Bullioh kicked 10 goals in the opening term and refused to ease up with six majors in the second term, 10 in the third and 12 in the last stanza.
Border-Walwa’s Jaidyn Hampton tried hard on debut.
In the closest match of the round, Cudgewa defeated Tumbarumba by 104 points at Cudgewa.
Brendan McEvoy led the way with eight majors while Jake Evans and Mitch Pynappels were also dominant after quarter-time.
Tumbarumba took a new-look side into the clash with Josh Fountain and Ryan Kirkwood playing well.
