The side consisting of Maddie Peters, Donna Anstee, Jenny Garner (captain), Susan Mitchell and Wendy Phillips proved too strong for Commericial Albury, 3.5 to 1.5 points, at Bright Golf Club last week.

It was the club’s first flag in the ladies’ top division since 2009.

Thurgoona’s number one player Peters won 7 and 6, while number two Anstee had a dominant 9 and 7 victory.

Captain Jenny Garner won her head-to-head 3 and 2, Mitchell finished all square on the 18th, while Thurgoona’s only lost match was Phillips’ 2 and 1 defeat.

The number one and two players hit off scratch, while the the remaining players use handicaps.

Garner was delighted with the result, but admitted it was close call for her side to reach the decider.

“We actually had to win the previous week against (Commercial) Albury at Albury to get into the final,” Garner said.

“It’s always quite difficult beating Albury at any time, let alone on their home course.

“Yarrawonga, Albury and us had each lost one match going into that, so one of us was going to miss out.

“But then it turned out Yarrawonga lost their match at Albury, so Albury ended up getting through to the final as well.”
