Tylan John Graham had speed, ice and marijuana in his system when he crashed near the Five Ways on October 14 last year.
The 20-year-old had been speeding in a white Holden Commodore on Urana Road about 7.40pm, heading towards the major intersection.
He smashed into the side of a taxi at the traffic lights near Griffith Road, causing extensive damage to both cars.
His passengers grabbed items from the car and fled, but Graham got out and abused and swore at the other driver.
Police attended and Graham was pacing up and down on the footpath, acting highly erratic.
Checks showed the car had the wrong plates and Graham ran from the officers up Urana Road.
They lost sight of him, but eventually found him at a Sanders Street home.
He had knocked on the door and been let in by the resident he had earlier befriended.
Tests at hospital later found the drugs in his system in high enough doses to make his driving impaired.
The taxi driver had told police he should have had enough time to make the turn, but Graham’s vehicle was travelling too fast.
A police expert said the concentration of drugs in the 20-year-old’s system would have been enough to impact on his driving.
It followed a traffic stop on Kaitlers Road six days earlier where Graham was so high, he couldn’t form proper words or sentences.
He was irritable, agitated, and moving about in the car when police spoke to him.
The Commodore had no plates on it and a rear tyre was punctured, and Graham continually put the windows up and down.
His eyes were like pin pricks and police arrested him in order to take a blood test for drugs at the Albury hospital.
He was angry at the request.
“Do I have to give blood, I don’t f---ing like needles, you’re not sticking it into me,” he said.
He was found to have high levels of ice and cannabis in his system.
The Border man, who is in custody, will be sentenced on May 16 for a string of driving offences.
He has a lengthy history of dangerous driving, including an incident where he jumped from a car he was driving.
