Maher pleaded guilty to striking Holbrook’s Nick Pugh in the final quarter of last Saturday’s game.
Pugh suffered a suspected facial fracture.
The incident was considered so serious, Maher was unable to take a set penalty.
The former coach won’t play again until the round nine clash against Henty on June 16.
He’ll miss a number of crucial matches, including Saturday’s match against Brock-Burrum, while an interleague bye next month and June Long Weekend will complete almost two months out of the game.
His absence will be a major loss as the club looks to make finals.
The club was tipped as one of the also-rans, but has started promisingly with two wins to sit fourth.
Maher was named in the All-Australian team in 2012.
