A glaring example, but not isolated to, is Victoria with its judicial system over-represented with socialist left judges and a police force not supported and restricted by questionable top level management. We see perpetrators of violent crime, together with drunk and drugged serial-offending drivers killing innocent people walking free, either by means of appalling sentences, bail, or parole, only to commit the same crime again.
We witness with disgust, the travesty of non-national extreme criminals, rapists, paedophiles, murderers avoiding deportation due to a pathetic appeals tribunal process, and others we have opened our door and compassion to repaying us in kind with violence and crime.
If we add to this the absurd political correctness forced on us, political corruption, radicalised efforts to destroy our national heritage and traditions like Anzac day, Australia day, Christmas, flying our national flag, to name only a few downturns. It begs the question: Is this the destiny we want of our great nation? Is this the far-leftist society we want to live in? If we accept it, we do so at our own peril.

ATAR out of whack
You know the ATAR system must be broken when, instead of picking subjects because they like them or are needed for the course they’re interested in, one of the first things most kids ask is: “How will this subject affect my ATAR?”

Sad for puppies
I write regarding the report in Monday’s Border Mail on the four cross-bred puppies stolen from a pet shop in Melbourne. These puppies should still have been with their mother. Backyard breeders and a charge of $3000 for a mongrel (cross-breed)? Very few pure-bred dogs command that price.
I personally believe dogs, cats etc should come from a reputable registered breeder and not be sold in pet shops. Some people have purchased their mate from a pet shop and are very happy. My pure-bred Vizlas came from a very dedicated breeder and definitely not anywhere near $3000.

Too little, too late
The need to provide the Great Barrier Reef with half a billion dollars to repair it from many forms of damage is not going to fix it. The money allocated should be from Queensland funds and should have been put in place from the tourism returns over many decades.
The Reef is a victim of industry and tourism and development and the region should have been protected.
There is another reef on the West Coast called Ningaloo. It is equally spectacular and perhaps even better than the Great Barrier Reef and has been protected and valued for its nature value while the Barrier Reef has been exploited for too many years.
The money allocated to the Barrier Reef shows how inland river systems like the Murray Darling that feed us with produce and have many natural habitats are too easily disregarded and left in poor condition and all we get are states that can not achieve a solution to a very serious problem.
