If, at the printing of Libby Price's article, Mrs McGowan had denied it happening, and told the true fact that it was Ken Wyatt who was touched, Mrs Mirabella's family would have been saved a lot of heartache, tears  and expense.

But no, Ms McGowan could see a political advantage in keeping quiet, thereby turning many people against Mrs Mirabella.

In doing so, Ms McGowan caused much grief to the Mirabella children also, which I am sure she didn't intend doing.

Libby Price is herself caught up in it by not checking all her facts before going to print.

It seems she talked to Ms McGowan but did she ask Mrs Mirabella for her version?

The ripples that are formed by  an incident such as this affect many people.

It is sad, but it seems that this is what our world is descending into – lies, innuendo and denigration of others

Is it any wonder we’ve become such a cynical society? 

How are we supposed to trust what comes out of a politician’s mouth when it takes two years and an appearance in court for an MP to admit something as simple as whether she was pushed – or in this case, not pushed.

The whole Sophie Mirabella-Cathy McGowan-Benalla Ensign story has a real bad smell about it and I’m afraid Cathy has come out of it looking a little worse for wear.

I would like to thank the public for the exceptional number of people attending the 2018 Anzac Day services held in Albury. It gave me great pride to see the amount of support and respect shown to our current and past Defence Force members and, of course, those that unfortunately didn’t return.

I want to recognise and thank those who helped make Anzac Day the success it was including Ros Walls and the maintenance staff of the Albury City Council who once again went to great effort to make the city ready for the event. Preparations commenced at 3am on the day so a big thank you to the ACC staff involved. A special mention and thank you goes to the RSL Committee whose volunteer support throughout the year is invaluable.

Others who assisted in making the day a success were: Colonel Patching, RSM Burford and the officers and servicemen and women of the Army Logistic Training  Centre; the many veteran groups; the Albury Police; the Light Horse members; the Albury City Band; Albury City Pipes and Drums; the parade marshals; Cadet groups; High Schools and Primary Schools and their supporting teaching staff; Emergency and support Services Groups; Scots School members who carried the flags and banners and the owners of the military vehicles and the Rotary Club of Albury who appear every year to carry the old diggers down Dean Street.

I want to also thank the Commercial Club, the Sailors, Soldiers and Airmen’s Club, the Albury Club and Sing Australia Group for their ongoing support and also the following individuals: Paul McSwiney, Dianne Prince, Tony Smith, Anthony Foley, Sebastian Turner, Andrew Dye, Darrin Wright and Matt Stephenson.
