Cr Mack and Minister for Regional Development John McVeigh said migrants helped ease skilled labour shortages in country areas especially in fields that for whatever reason did not appeal to locals.
“For migrants to come in and build their homes, jobs, their families over generations would be a tremendous outcome,” Mr McVeigh said.
Cr Mack said some regional businesses, like Griffith’s Baiada chicken processor, were searching for workers, but local residents weren’t applying.
“Migrant populations and migrant employment is critical to the growth of this country as it has been for 150 so let’s bring it on and make it happen,” he said.
