The Yackandandah community is exploring how we can do housing in a radically better way.
We want housing that is more affordable, much more energy efficient and builds a wonderfully connected community of residents of all ages and life stages.
We want housing that caters for single people, families and the elders in our community, challenging the current aged care model where older people are isolated from the rest of the community.
We want housing that is intentionally designed to increase connection between residents and reduce isolation.
We envisage, higher density housing with their own private outdoor space as well as use of shared facilities such as gardens, a playground, BBQ area, vegie gardens and a common room.
We want to prioritise pedestrians over cars and provide easy access to the shops and centre of Yackandandah via walking tracks and bike paths.
Come to our Innovative Housing Forum on Thursday May 17, 7pm-9.30pm at the Yackandandah Community Hall to explore what’s possible.
Our local speakers include Ian Scholes, manager of Planning and Statutory Services, Indigo Shire Council and Annette Nuck, CEO of Yackandandah Health
Ian will provide an overview of the council’s vision for population and housing growth in and around Yackandandah while Annette, will speak about Yackandandah Health’s vision for multi-generational housing and a new approach to aged care.
Our Melbourne-based speakers include Katherine Sundermann, Associate Director at MGS Architects who has experience in housing developments in Germany and the Netherlands. She is passionate about promoting ‘deliberative development’ models in Australia, to help create more diverse and inclusive neighbourhoods.
Andy Fergus, Urban Designer, City of Melbourne will speak about new approaches to planning and the possibilities for a design-led model of planning, with case studies from closer to home.
Then there’s Tim Riley, founder of Property Collectives, a citizen-led development model that brings people together to develop homes at cost. By working as a collective, the model provides a more affordable alternative for people to own great homes in great locations.
