The Blues have started the campaign in promising fashion, with their only losses coming against leaders Bullioh and Federal.

However, Cudgewa was the first team to get within 100 points of the Bulldogs.

Blues’ coach Nathan Lefoe took plenty of positives from last week’s 56-point defeat, considering they trailed by 44 points at quarter-time.

“From where we were last year to where we’ve come is a really good sign,” Lefoe said.

“We’ve really strengthened our back line and there’s a couple of additions to the midfield.

“Our recruitment has been pretty good and we’ve worked a lot on our skill level over pre-season.

“Jake Vinge has been very good and Kade Small has been one of our really dependable backmen we’ve picked up this year.”

Despite its performance against Bullioh, Lefoe knows his side can’t afford to take reigning premiers Corryong lightly this weekend.

“Jarrod Williams is one to look for, he kicked 100 goals last year, so we’ll try lock him down,” he said.

“They’re midfield is fairly silky and generally pretty fit, so we’ll need to make sure we get on top of them.”

In other games this weekend, Bullioh travels to take on Tumbarumba, while Border Walwa hosts Federal.
