Murray Conservatorium students Sarah McDiarmid, Ethan Trevaskis and Grace Trebley successfully auditioned for the Symphonic Wind Ensemble with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra.
They have been rehearsing in Melbourne each weekend.
Flautist Sarah, 16, said she was asked to audition after she did a Melbourne Youth Orchestra summer school.
“I was nine when I started playing the flute; I fell in love with it and it kind of stuck,” she said.
Ethan, 16, was chosen to play percussion instruments in the ensemble.
“I’ve played in Murray Conservatorium concerts and bands and it’s the next step up from that,” he said.
Grace was selected to play saxophone and clarinet in the ensemble.
The students will do three performances in Melbourne.
They are on Murray Conservatorium scholarships; Sarah is on a full scholarship thanks to the Ruth Whyte Bequest, which provides funding to continue orchestral music in the region.
