First half goals from Hayley Hart and Summer Sutherland put the hosts in the box seat at the break, before Goulburn pegged one back in the second stanza.
The Spitfires had control for the majority of the contest, but didn’t quite make the most of their dominance with scoreboard pressure.
Coach Jerry Sutherland was pleased with the effort after their heaviest defeat of the season against ANU last weekend.
“It probably should have been a few more, but we’ll take what we got,” he said.
“Chloe (Jones) was best on ground in her 100th game.
“She played really well, she was up front and gave us a bit of strength there which was good.
“Overall, we were happy with everyone’s performance.
“Everyone put in and did their bit.”
Laura Errey and Sadie Sawyer stepped up from the Hockey Albury-Wodonga division one competition to fill important roles for the Spitfires.
The result moves the Border side to seventh on the ladder, but more importantly, just four points out of the top-four.
Another home game awaits next weekend against Central.
The Spitfires then have a three-week break, with their next fixture not until June 23 away to ANU.
