The man, driving a blue Kia Rio, came off the road on the Melrose Drive overpass, crashing head-on into a tree.
He was travelling towards the overpass from Melbourne Road just before 9am when he came off the road about 50 metres from the roundabout intersection of Petcare Place and Gadsden Court.
Wodonga highway patrol Leading Senior Constable Guy Tinsley said the reason the man had crashed was yet to be determined.
“For some reason an elderly gentleman has ran off the road and run into a tree,” he said.
“We are still investigating the cause.”
Leading Senior Constable Tinsley said witnesses pulled over to help.
“An ambulance happened to be passing by, so by the time the young girl had called triple zero paramedics were already on scene,” he said.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said the man was taken to Albury base hospital in a stable condition.
