A new pergola has been installed in Bungam Community Garden, on the corner of Creek, Englehardt and Stanley Streets, with freshly-planted vines soon to spread over the structure.
“It will be fantastic for summer and it’s the icing on the cake to finish off the garden,” resident Peter Atkins said.
“It’s a great meeting place now.”
A Rotary Club of Albury West donation made the $2000 pergola possible, with president Stuart Abbott saying the garden’s neighbourhood connections appealed to the club.
“When we go past here, quite often we see people admiring things and working on their little plots,” Mr Abbott said.
“There’s a huge value in this system for the community.
“It’s a wonderful use of a bit of spare land right in the middle of the city.”
Approaching its third birthday, Bungam Community Garden is tended by volunteers who live nearby.
