The group, which is working on plans to make the town 100 per cent reliant on renewable energy by 2022, was given a Rural Councils Victoria award and cash prize on the weekend.
It was accepted by Indigo Council mayor Jenny O’Connor at the the Rural Summit in Lakes Entrance.
Yackandandah has added 550kW of solar panels since TRY launched and 160 “ubi” controllers have been installed, giving residents real time data about how their energy is being used.
RCV chair Rob Gersch said the award recognised rural Victorians who understood the need to implement bright ideas to strengthen their communities.
“The common theme among all award-winners was the desire to go above and beyond in offering services that benefit those who choose to enjoy the many benefits of living in rural areas,” he said.
“They truly deserve their awards and know they will use their prize money to continue the good work they do in their communities.”
