Any decent and civilised person should be sickened by the gutless and mindless attack on Melbourne paramedic Paul Judd and his paramedic partner. Sadly this mindless garbage is not limited to the paramedics.

I have been a registered nurse for 28 years and have lost count of the amount of times myself or a nursing colleague have been abused, threatened or attacked. What sickens me about the attack on the paramedic is threefold.
Firstly, society has been robbed of a valuable, skilled and caring paramedic. Secondly, this skilled paramedic has lost his career and is the one being punished. And thirdly, our gutless and spineless judicial system has given these repentless low lives a get out of free jail card; a real deterrent for other like-minded violent thugs.
I hope paramedics know that 95 per cent of society is disgusted by what happened to your colleague and the pathetic legal repercussions. Keep up your great work.

Listen to the people
In reading the report ‘Safe Zone bill in the House’ (The Border Mail, May 18) and the member for Albury wanting thoughts from the general public on exclusion zones, perhaps if Albury Council had passed the resolution moved by deputy mayor Amanda Cohn in February of this year it would have given Greg Aplin some guidance. As I suggested in an earlier letter.
Mr Aplin should take note of the thousands of signatures tabled at an Albury Council meeting supporting a safe access zone around the Englehardt Street clinic. It's about time that women visiting this clinic can do so in a safe way and not be bullied. Perhaps the Albury Council should revisit this matter and give the member some guidance as to the views of Albury?

Overcharge a rort
I wanted to express my outrage about the egregious meter reading fees Essential Energy are charging customers when they change address. Essential Energy charges $93 to read the meter when you move to a new address and another $93 when you leave. In comparison, the Queensland Electricity distributer charges $11.
The fee by Essential Energy is ridiculous especially for renters who move more frequently (let alone the unemployed or disability pensioners). I suspect it may even reduce employment mobility because people are locked into a residence because it costs $186 to move house just with the electricity meter read fees.
I have yet to receive a satisfactory response from politicians, business and the regulators as to why there is such a huge difference in the fee. I believe Essential Energy are price gauging in a similar fashion to the banks when they previously charged for ATM fees from other banks. It is outrageous.
The service, I believe, in no way reflects their costs. The PR representative from Essential Energy suggested that the fee was approved by IPART. If this is so, I believe someone needs to investigate IPART.

They call it progress
When government put an end to tobacco growing in Myrtleford what were they thinking? It is a legal commodity. Now, they're approving of marijuana (medical, of course) to be grown at Myrtleford. Progress – one step forward and two steps back.
