Fletcher will take on Mackenna Brady in one of the headline bouts at the Victorian Amateur Boxing League event at Wodonga Racecourse’s exhibition centre on Saturday night.
She will be out to improve her 4-1 career record, with plenty of support from the home crowd.
“I’ve fought at the Commercial Club before, but this will be a bit more pressure with quite a few locals fighting,” Fletcher said.
“I’ve trained with Mackenna previously and she’s always been good to work with, so it will be interesting to do it properly I suppose.
“I know she’s a good opponent and I expect her to come out strong.
“I’ve never fought a southpaw before either, so it will be a challenge and we’ll see how plays out.
“She does kickboxing as well as boxing, so she’s quite skillful.
“As long as she doesn’t use the legs in the fight we’re good.
“I’ll go through the motions as normal, but it will probably a bit different when I walk in on the night and everyone is there.
“I think it be great with so many familiar faces, being regional boxers we typically don’t get that, so that will be really encouraging for all the local fighters.”
Fletcher enters the fight full of confidence, having claimed a NSW state title at Narromine in March.
“Hopefully we’re up to the title level, but it was a good fight and she was a strong opponent,” she said.
“Hopefully I improve a bit more this time.”
Fletcher always considered boxing a sport she wanted to get involved in, but never expected to get as far as she has.
“I think once I got in there and had a go, I liked it, but it was hard with work trying to fit it all in,” she said.
“I wish I had of started when I was a lot younger.”
Fletcher trains with Corey Pyle at Boss Boxing in Wodonga and has formed a good partnership with him in recent months.
“It wasn’t long ago that he was in the ring and he’s really keen to try different ideas,” Fletcher said.
“He’s really good at working out what’s best for each of us because we all respond differently to different exercises and learning.
“We’ve got a really good group of people at the gym and it’s a really nice environment.”
Pyle is excited to see what Fletcher can produce this weekend.
“She trains super hard and never misses a session to ensure she can come out on top in front of her crowd,” Pyle said.
Doors open at 6pm, with boxing from 7pm.
