The 36-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the Border, having spent time at A-League giants Melbourne Victory, alongside Wodonga export Archie Thompson.
Vasilevski recently relocated his family to Rutherglen and was introduced to Murray through his connection with Thompson.
After meeting with club officials and commencing training with the NPL outfit, he admitted it was an easy decision to sign on.
“It’s all in line with how I want to finish my career I guess,” Vasilevski said.
“I want to be involved with a club that wants to learn and wants to grow.
“I started training and got to know all the boys, they’re a good bunch to play with because they want to learn and there’s a lot of young players that want me to pass down a few pointers and some experience as well.
“It made it an easy decision for me to put the boots back on and see if I can help the boys for the rest of the season.”
Vasilevski has been out of the game for close to two years to focus more on his family and career, but always knew he’d be back playing.
“This worked out really well and the timing was great,” he said.
“My body is good, my fitness is getting up and I think I can offer the team a little bit of experience and stability and a calm head at times.
“I think that’s what the team needs at the moment, as soon as we get a few injuries and players missing out, we’re a bit short of experience, so I think I can bring that to the table.
“At this stage of my career, I’d probably like to be a little bit more central, getting the ball from defence and linking it to the forward line.
“I’ve seen three or four games and I’ve been impressed, but I want to get out there and help.”
It’s been quite a change for Vasilevski living in the country for the first time, but one he’s loved every second of.
“Even with football clubs, coming from Melbourne and having played in Perth and Newcastle, the clubs in the country are a lot more supportive about their team and their players,” he said.
“The crowd is always behind the team as well, which is so important and it’s a great club to be a part of.
“It’s a good atmosphere, there’s families and kids around and it’s always positive.”
The mid-season window opens on May 28, with Vasilevski eligible to play in Murray’s home clash with Brunswick City on June 2.
