Now living in Wodonga, he and other members of the Albury-Wodonga Sri Lankan Buddhist Association bring their craftsmanship and passion for their religion to the centre of town.
For the fourth time on Saturday the festival, marking Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and departure from the human world, will be shared with the community.
Mr Dissanayaka said Junction Square would be filled with beautiful bamboo and tissue paper lanterns from 6pm.
“It’s about sharing the message of Buddha – the eight shapes in the lantern represent the eight things people should follow in Buddha’s learnings, and many are made with the five colours of the Buddhist flag,” he said.
“Albury-Wodonga is becoming a very multicultural place, so we’d love to give some impression of the Sri Lankan people and their festivals.”
There are about 45 members in the Albury-Wodonga Sri Lankan Buddhist Association.
