While the 17 and under line-up went down to Goulburn Valley by 22 goals, coach Paula Cary said the side learnt plenty from the experience.
Goulburn Valley will start the tournament as clear favourites with shooter Elle Brooks in outstanding form.
She shot 40 goals against the Ovens and Murray with her movement around the circle causing the Ovens and Murray defence plenty of headaches.
“The 17’s will be better for the hit-out from last week,” Cary said.
“They will know each other a bit better and the different combinations.
“Our girls played well but the Goulburn Valley and particularly their shooters are very strong.”
The Ovens and Murray will also send a 15 and under side to Wangaratta with Georgie McMahon to coach.
The top-two sides in each age group will qualify for the Victorian association championship finals in Melbourne in July.
Albury, Wangaratta, Wodonga, Bendigo, Yarrawonga and Murray are also expected to field teams at the annual tournament.
“I haven’t seen all the sides, but I’m sure the Goulburn Valley and Albury outdoor teams will be strong,” Cary said.
“Albury has a good little side.”
The Ovens and Murray’s open side has automatically qualified for Melbourne.
Matches start at the Barr Reserve from 9am.
