“We are the region’s go-to news source, and have been for more than 110 years,” The Border Mail editor Xavier Mardling said.
“With more and more of our readers connecting with us online, the introduction of our local news subscriptions will allow us to boost our online journalism to meet the modern demands of the communities we serve.”
Subscription packages will include unrestricted around-the-clock access to bordermail.com.au and all of the local news, sport, opinion and community information from the team of Border-based journalists, as well as the latest national news and sport, breaking news alerts and regular e-newsletters.
The launch date and details of subscription offers, including prices and premium options, will be announced in coming weeks. No changes are proposed for the newspaper.
“Through our new subscriptions, we will seek to foster greater community support for our local journalism which we know is deeply valued by our audiences for its essential role in keeping Albury-Wodonga and the surrounding regions informed, entertained and connected,” Mr Mardling said.
“The tremendous growth of our online audience in recent years shows the value our community sees in our journalism.
“By subscribing for online access, readers will be helping The Border Mail continue its mission to deliver the local journalism that our community trusts.”
The refresh last year of bordermail.com.au paved the way for the introduction of subscriptions.
“Our new site delivers a better reader experience and convenient access to the latest local news via your smartphone, tablet and desktop,” Mr Mardling said.
The Border Mail’s community-based journalists use the latest in newspaper and website publishing technology to allow local news to be published immediately online.
The Border Mail is part of Fairfax Media’s Australian Community Media (ACM) regional, rural and suburban publishing business. New subscriptions have recently been introduced at eight ACM titles in south-west NSW, including The Daily Advertiser. No decisions have been made relating to other ACM mastheads.
