Nationals MLC Bronnie Taylor referred in parliament to the women’s group backing the step, initially pushed by the Albury Evening CWA branch in 2016.
“I...commend the association for being brave and for having the courage to put its support in writing to all members of parliament,” she said.
Evening branch president Judy Haines said her group decided to act after observing protests at Albury’s Englehardt Street clinic.
CWA state president Annette Turner in a letter told MPs access to medical services was “doubly important in the bush” and “critical”.
Labor MLC Walt Secord noted the CWA did not have a policy on abortion but believed patients should not be harassed.
