Another 40cm of snow is forecast to fall next week.
Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Major Events and Regional Victoria Danielle Green travelled to Hotham on Saturday morning to declare the 2018 winter season officially open.
Ms Green toured the resort with chief executive Jon Hutchins and board chair Maxine Morand, also looking at the second mountain pygmy-possum “tunnel of love”, created with Victorian government funding.
State natural environment program officer Jerry Alexander there was an important mountain pygmy-possum population on the mountain.
“The Great Alpine Road was put in there before we knew about the population. Based on the success of the original love tunnel, we have decided to construct a new tunnel at Cherokee Corner,” he said.
“We are doing everything we possibly can to improve their chances.”
