Bright Brewery marketing manager James Davidson said Darker Days on June 30 was a showcase of dark beer, local produce and activities that celebrated winter in the Alpine valleys.
Mr Davidson said North East breweries Social Bandit, Rutherglen Brewery and King River Brewing would be on board for the festival for the first time this year while Malt Shed, Two Pot and Wrong Side breweries would offer guest dark beers.
“I love providing the opportunity to showcase the region’s best dark and winter beers while surrounded by a festival that turns winter dreariness into a fun, fire-filled and delicious day out,” he said.
“Darker Days will also mark the 2018 launch of Bright Brewery’s annual winter brew, Stubborn Russian Imperial Stout, and will see the return of our other limited release winter favourite, Black Diamond India Black Ale.”
Mr Davidson said other festival newcomers this year included Yackandandah whisky producers Backwoods Distilling Co and Beechworth’s Asylum Ghost Tours crew.
He said they would tell ghost stories around the fires and lead a ghost tour around the haunted streets of Bright on the hour from 6pm.
There will be live music from North East acts Harry & Disco, Liv Cartledge and The Kissin Cousins plus a headline set from Melbourne band Saint Jude.
After the sun sets, Bright Brewery’s riverside lands will come alive with a ceremonial burning of a giant wooden structure.
The festival will run from noon to 9pm at 123 Great Alpine Road (Bright Brewery’s vacant block), with entry a gold coin donation for the CFA.
Children’s activities include JD's Face Painting and medieval sword woodworks with Schloss Toys.
Participating brewers include Black Dog Brewery (Taminick), Blizzard Brewing Co (Dinner Plain), Bridge Road Brewers (Beechworth), Bright Brewery (Bright), King River Brewing (King Valley), Rutherglen Brewery (Rutherglen), Social Bandit Brewing Co (Mansfield) and Sweetwater Brewing Co (Tawonga South).
Food outlets include Little Peddler, Bright Brewery, Riverdeck Cafe, Tolpuddle Goat Cheese & Farm Foods, King Valley Popcorn, The Wingvan, Chestnuts Australia and Shack Donuts.
