With a new program, the spectacular performs all the well-known favourites including Rule Britannia, Jerusalem, Radetzky March and Elgar’s Land of Hope and Glory, led by Australia’s acclaimed international violinist Ian Cooper.
He is joined by the Scots School Pipe Band, Riverina Highland Dancers and the Blue Danube Orchestra.
“We have three magnificent sopranos, a principle tenor from Opera Australia, Australia’s foremost pipe band, highland dancers, our Classical Ballet ... all accompanied by the Blue Danube Orchestra,” Cooper says.
“The thrill of performing with a cast of this size is a feeling like no other, especially when we are all on stage together.
“I find the show absolutely exhilarating and I sense the overwhelming joy from the audiences as well.”
Cooper rates being commissioned to write and perform a piece for the 2000 Sydney Olympics’ opening ceremony his career highlight.
He says this performance will cover well-known selections from The Sound of Music, The Merry Widow, Carmen and The Waltz King, haunting renditions of Irish favourites and the pipers’ tribute to the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
“The concert will take a musical journey all across Europe – from Spain, France, popular Italian Arias, music from the famous Hungarian Gypsy Orchestras.” Cooper says.
“The music and songs we perform have really stood the test of time; many of them have been popular for centuries.
“I feel very privileged not only to be able to present this music around Australia, but being able to do it with some of the best talent this country has to offer is a real treat.”
