Forty singers from 16 Border schools will perform with 46 children from the Sydney Children’s Choir in the Songfest concert in Albury on Sunday.
A joint project with the Murray Conservatorium, the Songfest concert at Albury Public School Hall is open to the public.
Murray Conservatorium general manager Jenny O’Hara said the Border community had rallied to make this opportunity for Border students.
“Local students represent 16 local schools,” she said.
“A reasonable number of boys are involved which is also great!”
Led by artistic director Lyn Williams OAM and associate conductor Amandine Petit, the Sydney Children’s Choir tours internationally.
Gondwana Choirs executive director Bernie Heard, who will tour with the youth ensemble, said Songfest aimed to leave a legacy that would have an impact long after the choir boarded its bus back to Sydney.
“The Songfest concept was designed to promote the joy and benefits of choral singing to regional centres,” Heard said.
The Songfest concert repertoire sung by local children will include Dan Walker’s Pilliga Stomp and Ben van Tienen’s Some Days.
Gondwana Choirs delivered professional learning to Border school teachers in May while Murray Conservatorium delivered free choral workshops in Border public schools.
Songfest is part of Gondwana Choirs’ commitment to regional communities.
The hour-long performance starts at 2pm.
