Ms Gowan told The Border Mail there was no “enormous hurry” to find a successor, but a suitable person would be mentored and trained.
“The fact is we’ve begun succession planning,” she said.
“So we’re looking around and we’ll see what happens out of that.”
“I am reasonably optimistic that the prime minister is not going to have an election until next year, so there’s quite a lot of time to get this sorted out.”

It comes only weeks after Ms McGowan spoke at the Voices For Indi ‘Getting elected to represent your community’ workshop for potential political candidates, which discussed how no two independents have been elected consecutively.
