North Albury’s Chris Riley opened Buzzy Beans in Mate Street late last month after leasing the shipping container.
“I’ve always had an inkling I wanted to do something with coffee,” he said.
“It’s amazing how much you can get into a tiny container.”
Having moved to Albury from Britain with his family when he was 12, Mr Riley worked in car sales and the retail industry before his first solo venture.
He said he was an avid coffee drinker and would go anywhere on the Border for it.
“I would travel from North Albury to Wodonga if I knew I was going to get the best coffee,” Mr Riley said.
“I have a commercial coffee machine at home and I’m interested in roasting.
“My two passions are coffee and real estate; I’m doing a real estate course.
“This is my first venture to try to build a little coffee empire.”
Mr Riley said he used White Owl Coffee beans from Albury business The Barista, Baker & Brewer.
He said he offered cakes, slices and light lunches to complement the coffee menu.
“We offer coffee, cold drinks, cakes, pies and toasties,” he said.
Mr Riley said he always had six or seven coffees, perfecting the machine settings each morning and throughout the day.
“I try not to drink any after 7pm because I need to sleep for the early starts!” he said.
Buzzy Beans, at 775 Mate Street outside the Washup Laundromat, operates seven days.
