Magistrate Rodney Brender told Aarin James Burns that what went against him was the fact he had breached parole and the nature of the assault.
Burns, who appeared on Monday via a video link to Junee jail, had already spent five days in custody.
Defence solicitor Tim Hemsley urged Mr Brender to place the 39-year-old on a good behaviour bond after he pleaded guilty to a single charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
But Mr Brender decided against immediately sentencing Burns, ordering the preparation of a pre-sentence report, which the court heard could take about a month to prepare.
Police told the court how the victim and his girlfriend moved from Wollongong to his mother’s house in Finley about 12 months ago. Six months ago, Burns and his father also moved into the house.
The victim and his girlfriend got into an argument in the lounge room of the Hampden Street house on June 19 about 11am.
They went into the bedroom, but the argument continued so Burns had a conversation with the man.
When Burns walked away, the victim abused him. Burns walked back into the bedroom and grabbed the victim by the throat as he lay on the bed.
The girlfriend then entered the room and tried to separate the pair. During the fight, the victim was punched to the forehead numerous times, causing swelling and bruising.
He also received scratches to his neck.
Burns, who was released from jail six months ago after serving time for robbery offences, will be sentenced on July 23.
