Located at Mayday Hills, the house would serve as a reception centre and “museum of Australian film and popular culture” to be enjoyed by visitors.
His planning permit application has now been lodged with Indigo Council.
The caravan park, to be built in two stages, proposes a mix of accommodation including 21 drive-through and 46 standard vans sites, 31 tourist cabins, 12 permanent residence cabins and 10 campsites.
“While not of an age or significance similar to the heritage buildings elsewhere on this site, (the house from The Castle) being a relocated building of weatherboard cladding will make it blend in more with the surroundings, providing a respectful contribution to the character of the area,” the plan stated.
The caravan park would contain many references to the popular movie as an ongoing theme.
The plan argued the caravan park would be far enough away from the Mayday Hills historic centre to ensure it did not have a negative impact, but would promote the area by creating shared paths to the town centre.
Solar energy and recycled materials would be considered when developing the caravan park.
A small-scale distillery was originally included in the application, to be located in an old machinery shed, but the idea was scrapped.
Indigo Council will not make a decision on the planning permit application before July 4.
