Our judges never have to look far for outstanding work in the Albury-Wodonga area when it comes time for our annual Regional Building Awards program.
Even in a year when we cast the net as wide as the entire northern half of Victoria your community shows up with multiple winners.
I want to congratulate B&H Homes for the Best Display Home in the $350k-$500k’ category with ‘Alkira’, a sunny single-story dwelling in Wodonga. The builder focused on floor plan flexibility and a design that helps keep internal temperatures comfortably stable, a goal that relies on deep verandahs and efficient ventilation.
J&J Carroll Pty Ltd’s pair of Albury townhouses include private balconies with views over adjacent sporting fields, and a focus on open-plan living and an appreciation of outdoor liveability.
We also appreciated the nod to sustainability in the form of low-maintenance landscaping. For their achievement, we awarded J&J Carroll ‘Best Multi-unit Development up to three units’.
As we all know, many projects succeed for what they astutely omit, like superfluous walls and other spatial clutter. Connelly Construction Services won the award for ‘Excellence in Commercial Buildings $1 million- $3 million’ for their delivery of an addition to Wodonga’s Victory Lutheran College.
The building brings together three general-purpose classrooms, a lecture theatre and several other dedicated rooms within a changeable matrix of operable walls and flexible seating.
Each of these projects bears the mark of a community in the midst of a remarkable period of expansion.
Victoria’s rate of population growth continues to outpace all other states and territories and the demand for homes and infrastructure continues to increase. It’s important to know the builders of your area have the talent to match the demand.
Awards like these continue to showcase the quality of Victoria’s builders. The judges’ decisions look closely at the quality and integrity of a builder’s work. Master Builders is justifiably proud of the work our members consistently produce.
