With the AFL having a general bye on the same weekend, league officials are keen to break new ground by playing their first night final on Saturday, September 1.
The proposal was tabled during a presidents and delegates meeting on Wednesday night.
General manager Sean Barrett said a final decision would be made at the league's August 13 board meeting.
"We're keen to explore it," Barrett said.
"The best opportunity is the qualifying final given there is no AFL which could open one of our marquee games up to a wider audience.
"It hasn't been an option previously as we have had our grand finals at Lavington
"We will get feedback from the clubs and take it from there."
With Albury guaranteed to finish on top of the ladder, the most likely scenario would be a clash between reigning premier Wangaratta and Wodonga Raiders.
Barrett said Albury Council had indicated the Lavington Sportsground developments wouldn't hinder the plan.
"The netball is probably the biggest challenge," Barrett said.
"We would like to keep it in line with the football so we might need to work with council in regards to upgrading the lightning.
"There are certainly options."
Lavington has hosted the grand final every year since 1995 but lost the premiership decider to Wangaratta this season due to a $11 million redevelopment.
