The Saturday afternoon event, featuring NSW politicians of all persuasions, has been organised by We Need Exclusion Zones Albury Wodonga leader Liz Marmo.
“I decided to have this event, so people could come along and meet politicians and each other and talk about the campaign that’s been going on for six to seven years,” Ms Marmo said.
“It’s just a celebration, a bit like a wedding or a 21st.
“We’ve got speakers, but I want to keep it laidback.
“It will be a bit informal.”
Upper House MPs Trevor Khan (Nationals) and Penny Sharpe (Labor) who co-sponsored the safe exclusion zones bill through parliament will attend.
They will be joined at Beer Deluxe by Nationals member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams and Greens MLC Mehreen Faruqi.
It will be the first visit to Albury in relation to the matter by the Nationals politicians, while Ms Sharpe and Dr Faruqi have previously attended Border rallies calling for safe zones.
The law is yet to operate while Albury’s fertility treatment centre in Englehardt Street is open.
An injury to Melbourne doctor Kathy Lewis, who provides weekly services at the clinic, has meant the rooms have been shut recently.
However, Dr Lewis is due to return from medical leave next week.
In addition to the politicians, Ms Marmo said all Albury councillors and representatives of Gateway Health and Women’s Health Goulburn North East had been invited to her gathering.
“I’m thinking well over 50 will be there, based on personal emails back to me and people that have rung,” she said.
Retired Wodonga obstetrician Pieter Mourik and chief executive of birth control body Marie Stopes Australia, Michelle Thompson, are also on the guest list.
Albury-raised NSW MLA Kate Washington was invited but cannot attend.
“Dr Mourik paid a heavy personal price for his vocal opposition to the protesters, being sued for defamation and having to settle in order to minimise his losses,” Ms Washington said.
