The cash from the highly competitive Building Better Regions fund will go towards construction of six serviced independent living units and another four one-bedroom serviced apartments.
It is stage two of an expansion with stage one being creation of six homes on land not-for-profit Finley Regional Care purchased about six years ago.
Chief executive Ben Levesque said it was the second time the community organisation had applied for federal funding.
“It was far more competitive than what we thought it would be and we just had to up our game in the application,” he said.
“We just had to provide more detail and so forth.”
Farrer MP Sussan Ley congratulated Finley Regional Care on its success.
“This is a really important development, allowing Finley Regional Care to provide low-cost, affordable housing to seniors from our local area,” she said.
“The units provide residents with independent living in maintenance-free, safe accommodation in a caring community, meaning our older citizens can be cared for in their own home as long as they wish to be there.”
Mr Levesque said the $2.5 million second stage at Alumuna would create 48 jobs during the construction phase and 10 more positions jobs on completion.
“The 6-star rated environmentally friendly homes are designed within liveable housing design guidelines, which meet the changing needs of home occupants across their lifetime,” he said.
“The units also source their own power using solar generation and battery storage.”
The balance of the funding will be raised by Finley Regional Care.
