Moving into a new community is easy when you already know several of your new neighbours.
This was the case for Graham and Maureen Beesley, who moved into Albury by Gateway Lifestyle a few years ago.
“We’re from Burrumbuttock, a farming community about half-an-hour northwest of Albury,” Maureen said.
“One of the main reasons we chose to move to this community was that six other residents had moved down from Burrumbuttock already. So it was like moving in with friends!”
Making connections in the community was one way that Graham and Maureen knew they’d settle in easily. The other factor Graham in particular considered important was security.
“I wanted to know that if Maureen were ever on her own, she’d feel safe living in a gated community,” he said.
Not long after moving in, Graham’s neighbours discovered that he was the editor of the local newsletter in his former home town. It didn’t take much convincing for him to take on the role of the Village Voice newsletter for his new community.
“I’ve been the volunteer editor for the newsletter ever since,” Graham said.
Along with his responsibilities for the monthly newsletter, Graham plays bowls, enjoys the weekly snooker competition and loves joining in at the monthly port tasting evenings.
“Maureen and I attend the weekly movie matinee in the community centre, and love getting involved with the art group,” Graham said. “We tend to join in with most things here.”
Gateway Lifestyle chief executive officer Trent Ottawa said Albury by Gateway Lifestyle has always had great community spirit and continued to welcome new residents with enthusiasm.
“This community has great facilities and beautiful landscaped gardens. Add to that the strong friendships that have been built here, and this is a community I know residents really take pride in.”
“We’re now in the final stage release of new homes for Albury, and I don’t expect them to be available for long,” he said.
