With just six sides in the senior women’s competition and teams frequently having byes, St Pats are the only one to play every game between now and the opening week of the cup finals.
St Pats start their run with Wodonga Diamonds at Kelly Park this weekend – the side they’ll meet in the knockout phase of the season if ladder positions stay the same.
Wodonga Diamonds’ midfielder Blair Rankin rates Patties as the underdogs of the competition.
“They only lost to (Albury) City 1-0 (last week), so that’s a bit of an eye-opener and they absolutely smashed us the first time we played them,” Rankin said.
“It will be good to get back out there with a full team and show them what we have on the park.”
Teenage sensation Tyler Maiolini has been a shining light in what’s been a challenging year for Diamonds, leading the side’s goal-scoring with seven.
“She’s definitely stepped up this season, we dragged her up from ressies because we needed her and she’s definitely proven her spot,” Rankin said.
“I think she’s only 15, so she’s amazing to have stepped up and had that mentality at such a young age.”
