The stocky midfielder was having his breakout season last year and was a leading best and fairest contender when he was cut down with a knee injury against Corowa-Rutherglen on June 17.
He’s played two games in reserves in recent weeks.
“I was always of the understanding I’d allow myself a 12-month period and then anything before that was going to be a bonus,” he said last night.
“I worked with the Essendon footy club physio once a month, so I’ve been under the guidance of people who know what they’re talking about.”
The 26-year-old is certainly not after a ‘honeymoon’ period, where he starts to regain form.
“That’s been my driving force over the last 12 months to get back and playing that footy that I was previously,” he said.
Gorman is one of five inclusions as the Pigeons edge closer to their best team.
Lach Howe has been relieved of VFL duties, while classy youngster Ryan Bruce is another valuable addition.
Boom teenager James Jordon is out with school football, while Bailey Frauenfelder is back with the Murray Bushrangers.
Meanwhile, winless Rovers have made seven changes, with five of those – including Ed Dayman and Tyler Harrington – returning to the ladder-leading under 18 side.
Elsewhere, Wangaratta says defender Zac Hedin has been ruled out for 12 months with a serious knee injury.
Hedin popped his kneecap against Yarrawonga last week, was stretchered off but returned to the ground, only to be later forced off in the third term.
His brother Matt has also missed virtually the last two years with a knee complaint.
The Pies start the run of games against teams outside the five, starting at home against Corowa-Rutherglen.
And the Roos’ Joel Montgomery will make his debut at 26 as one of four changes to the team.
