Owner-operator Ken Jensen said the company, which is currently running a temporary rink for the holidays, had applied to lease 7 Queen Street, the site of Mirra Steel Products.
Mr Jensen said he was confident the lease would be approved and had already spoken to Wodonga Mayor Anna Speedie and council.
“I have a meeting with town planning on Monday to nut out any issues but they’ve been very helpful so far so I don’t see any major problems,” he said.
“The mayor has been especially helpful.”
Mr Jensen said if approved the rink – located near Scrambles Playcentre and Cafe – would be up and running by the September holidays.
“We’ll do the initial set up then hire staff, it needs about two or three people at any time,” he said.
“The fact I’m prepared to put my money where my mouth is shows I can believe to make it work, we’ve got a permanent rink in Townsville so we know the business model work.”
Mr Jensen said people involved in ice hockey and ice skating were excited to have somewhere to train, and he called on those in the industry to get in touch about coaching and possible rink uses.
He said there was a lack of rinks not just in the region but in Sydney and Melbourne and said people could come be drawn to the region to get ice-time.
