Wodonga resident Nigel Miller was armed with a sawn-off shotgun and wearing a disguise when he targeted the victims in February last year.
He had travelled from the Border with Mac Silkoulabout, Kia Toumngeun, Stephen John White and others to the property at Robinvale, near Mildura, on the prospect of getting some “easy money”.
Sikoulabout had told the group there was up to $20,000 at the home.
A woman in a caravan was hit with a mallet and punched in the face, and a man smashed with a gun.
Another man inside a house was tied up by his wrists and ankles and hit with a gun and warned he would be killed if he spoke to police.
The group fled with only a few hundred dollars in cash, mobile phones, a novelty sword and a necklace.
Items linked to the incident, including firearms, were found during a raid on a Trudewind Road home last May.
Miller only took part in one incident, but the others were involved in a second and more violent home invasion two months later.
Toumngeun told the police that Miller was involved in both incidents in a bid to protect two family members.
County Court judge Paul Grant said the incident was distressing for the victims.
“It was dark, you were disguised, you were in company and you were armed with a sawn-off shotgun,” he said.
He will serve a maximum six years.
