Officers arrested Rowan Stanley Weaver, 28, on assault and traffic offences on Tuesday following the incident.
They had been trying to find him after a vehicle was stolen from a home on Smith Street in North Albury last Tuesday night.
The vehicle was seen by the owners the following day but the driver fled.
Weaver allegedly stole fuel from a Lavington service station early Friday morning and police found the car in Parkway Lane, damaged and unable to be driven.
Officers saw Weaver, who was a passenger in a car on Griffith Road, about 10.25am on Tuesday.
He allegedly got out and police tried to arrest him, leading to a foot chase.
It’s alleged he knocked over a 75-year-old woman on a walking frame as he fled.
Police continued to chase him and he was arrested with the help of a member of the public.
He was denied bail.
