Kelly Country Pick – old time, bluegrass weekend

It’s Kelly Country Pick weekend across Beechworth, with bluegrass and old time country music around the town today and tomorrow. The Kelly Country Pick focuses on sharing and teaching music and provides a great opportunity to see some of the foremost bluegrass and ol'-timey musicians from Australia and overseas – both in concert and in informal sessions.
August 18, Albury Entertainment Centre, 8pm, $60
Ian Moss, one of Australia’s iconic musicians, delivers an unforgettable sound whenever he plays, whether with Cold Chisel, his own band or solo. With guitar in hand Mossy will pump out a soulful solo show on the Border tonight as part of a regional acoustic tour. Expect plenty Chisel and Mossy classics.

The weekend event sees photographers of all levels and Instagrammers tour the High Country’s snow covered mountains and picturesque villages – and capture the day in pictures, from sunrise to after dark. Bring your camera and some warm clothes.

With the thermometer just pushing through double figures it is not ideal swimming weather – unless you’re indoors, like competitors at the Victorian Country Short Course Championships in Wangaratta this weekend. It’s held regionally each year and 79 events will be held over two days of competition.
August 18, Jones Winery and Vineyard, 7pm, $160
Join Jones Winery for their famous annual L.J. Dinner at the Rutherglen winery tonight. Enjoy a sumptuous degustation menu created by Briony Bradford, who spent more than a decade working and cooking around the globe. Her delicious dinner will be matched Mandy and Arthur Jones’ wines. This year’s event will feature the 2016 L.J. made from low-yielding, old Shiraz vines that were planted in 1905.
