The Wodonga Youth Refuge continues to be a safe and supportive environment for youth experiencing homelessness, as it was for Julia.
Julia*, a young mother experiencing homelessness, who had not had access with her child for several months, presented at the refuge seeking accommodation and support.
Junction staff provided this support through a range of avenues, including the submission of an application for Transitional Housing, offered through Beyond Housing.
This application, in conjunction with advocacy support, resulted in Julia being successful in obtaining Transitional Housing. Stable housing has allowed Julia to engage in addressing her other support needs.
Julia’s Case Manager facilitated her connection with her child by advocating to Child Protection on her behalf.
This resulted in Child Protection opening a file to explore reunification between mother and child. Furthermore, Julia has been linked in with a local GP to have her medical needs met and a local Flexible Education Provider to support to her educational goals.
It is hoped Julia will continue engaging with her supports and increase her community connectedness.
