Emergency services were called to the scene of a shed fire on Park Avenue at about 9.15pm on Thursday.
Police say people inside had only left the shed for a short time to get more wood, but inadvertently left the door to the pot belly stove open.
A burning piece of wood fell from the stove and igniting floor coverings.
Flammable items stored in the shed also caught alight, quickly spreading the fire to a vehicle and other items.
Fire units were able to extinguish the blaze but not before damage was sustained to the roof of the shed, the car and other items stored inside.
A man who lived at the home also suffered minor smoke inhalation while trying to put out the fire.
Police said the fire was not suspicious, but a reminder in the cold weather to always maintain quality attention of a lit fire.
People using fires during winter are advised to store flammable items away from the heat, make sure they have a fire extinguisher nearby, always supervise the fire, and have working smoke alarms – even in the shed.
